Get Rid of Bed Bugs

bed bug Many People ask How do I Get Rid of Bed Bugs!

The first step in getting rid of Bed Bugs is proper identification. We get many calls with people thinking the may have bed bugs, but do not have bed bugs. Identification is the most important thing.

Bed Bugs are small, brownish, oval shaped insects that live on blood. Adult bed bug bodies are flat and about the size of a lemon seed. After they feed on humans or animals they swell and turn a redish color.

Bed bugs can move fast on floors, ceilings and walls. Immature bed bugs are called nymphs. They shed there skin five times before reaching maturity. They also have to feed before they can shed. In ideal conditions bed bugs can develop in as little as 30 days and can produce three or more generations in a year. Female bedbugs can lay hundreds of eggs over a lifetime.

Treatment options to Get Rid of Bed Bugs:

There are several treatment methods once a positive identification is made. One method is a chemical tratment of infested areas. The second method is steam, all areas are steamed to kill the bed bugs and eggs. The third option is using heat, the property inside is raised to a temperature that will kill the bed bugs.

Remember the first step to Get Rid of Bed Bugs is a proper inspection!

Termites ! What are my options?

termites alatesThe other day one of my friends called and said I either found termites or magots. How can I tell the difference. I asked where did you find them. He was working in the flower bed near the home. I asked if the trash had been setting there. He said it was just a flower bed. That he was moving some decorative brick and these were right under it. I told him go ahead and send me a photo. This is the picture. I told him these are termites. You can see the worker termites and if you look at the longer white looking ones, they are Subterranean termite alates. They turn a darker brown in color and get wings. They are known as the swarmers or flying termites. They fly out typically in the afternoon on a warm and humid spring day. Many times property owners do not know they have termites until they see these. The best prevention is a good inspection. Sureguard offers free inspections for non real estate transactions. Does Sentricon Termite Control Work for Homes and Businesses?

Sentricon Above Ground StationAG emptiedSentricon Termite Control

In 1998 we had to ask ourselves this. Over the years we have been very happy with the results. The best part is our clients have been very pleased knowing that the termite infestation is no longer affecting their property. Today we even use Sentricon as a preventive. Installing in hundreds of homes a year as a preventive. Some of the new construction home that have Sentricon installed have activity in the stations within a few weeks. This eliminates the temites before they can get in the home. Many ask the difference between liquid termiticides and Sentricon. In 1998 we asked ourselves that question. We had been using liquid termiticides for 30 years. With liquids you cannot get to every spot in an existing home. We were authorized to be one of the select companies to be able to use the Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System. We had about 5 homes that had been treated with liquid termiticides. The homes were installed with Sentricon at no cost to the homeowner. If we were using a product we wanted to be 100% confident. I am pleased to say within 6 months all the termite activity infesting the homes was eliminated. These home never had termites in them again as long as the Sentricon was protecting the home. We did have termite colonies show up periodically in the stations as new colonies tried to move in. They were quickly eliminated. We have used Sentricon in guest homes, all sizes of residential  homes, high rise office buildings, commercial buildings that were over a mile around and many other properties. The above photo is one of an A/G(above/ground) station that was installed on a garage floor. You can see how the termites consumed the bait. We continue to use the Sentricon System today to eliminate termites. Quality service is the key to the Sentricon. We are proud to be one of the Select companies to be able to use Sentricon.

Is It Flying Termites or Flying Ants ?

antsvstermites (3)antsvstermites (4)How to Tell the Difference between a Flying ant and a Flying termite?

Is it an ant? or Termite?

Termites keep themselves well hidden. They are typically in enclosed tunnells.

If you are seeing Flying termites it is probably the swarming season or the reproductive swarm. The problem is swarming termites look like flying ants.

This will help you tell which one you are seeing:

Wings: The ants front pair is linger than the backnand they do not come off very easy. On Termites, they are of equal length and do come off easily.

Waists: Ants are narrow and the termites are thicker less defined.

Antennae: Ants are elbowed, Termites are straight.

We are always available to identify if it is termites or ants.

Why Home Pest Control In Dallas Is A Necessity

termitesmallYou know, there are those among us who say that we should try to live as peacefully with nature as possible. And for the most part, we agree.

In fact, if we could write a letter to the termites telling them that we’ve left a stack of wood for them out back as long as they stay out of our homes, we would be in the letter writing business. But the fact is, sometimes species are at odds with each other, and that’s why we’re in the pest control business.

But what happens when a pest is much more than just a pest? Sometimes there’s real danger.

Termites: It’s this simple…if your home includes wooden supports, termites want to eat your home. That means that they’re at odds with your interest of living indoors and your interest of having a strong, well-supported home. At Sureguard we specialize in termite control, because just asking them to leave isn’t going to do it. You need home pest control that gets results.

Mosquitos: What’s the deadliest animal alive? Crocodiles? Lions? Nope, it’s the mosquito. Because it’s so amazing at transmitting the malaria virus, mosquitos are far and away the most dangerous animal humanity has ever encountered.

Of course, malaria isn’t very prevalent in the United States, but mosquitos are also carriers of the West Nile virus, a potentially deadly virus that has been found in 22 Texas counties.

Mice: In 1993 something started killing Native Americans in the Four Corners region of the southwest. It was the first American instance of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a virus that kills around one-third of those infected. The hantavirus is transmitted by mice, usually deer mice. You don’t even have to see the mice in order to be infected…while it can be transmitted by a bite, it is most often through handling of mice feces or through the air as people clean an area that’s infested. Texas is fifth in the nation in terms of hantavirus cases.

When it comes to pest control in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, Sureguard is ready to deal with any issues you might have. Give us a call today to keep you and your family safe.

Outdoor Living- Take Back Your Outdoor Areas

There’s nothing worse than having limited time this season for you and or your family enjoying the great outdoors because of those pesky pests that bite & sting.

Texas mosquitoes, fleas and ticks can spread so many
diseases such as west Nile Virus, Lyme disease and in some cases St. Louis encephalitis. Fire ants also pose a great health threat and risk as some people are highly allergic to their sting. Protecting you and your loved ones health in these hot sticky summers is one of our greatest concerns, so don’t let these pests take away the enjoyment of your outdoor living and or playing! Are you tired of going outside only to be bitten or bothered by these pests. One of our acquaintences wife was bitten by a mosquito in 2013. She became ill and had to go on bed rest. There were times that they were not sure if she was going to make it. They set a hospital bed up in the living room. I am glad to say that she has recovered. Unfortanatly she still has affects from this. She is weak at times. But is doing much better now. But it was a long two years.

Sureguard Termite & Pest Services has developed an Outdoor Living Program specially targeted to control and maximize these pests we’ve mentioned so you can get back
out there and have fun in the sun and start enjoying outdoor living again without becoming an evening meal for another pest.
