HISTORY
Pioneers settled in the Southlake area in the 1840s but Southlake was not incorporated until 1956, four years after Grapevine Lake was finished. Southlake remained rural until the 1970s when DFW International Airport was completed.
Since Southlake was so close to the airport, it became a boom-burb throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. The population is almost at full capacity with over 27,000 residents as of 2012. The expected build-out population is projected around 34,000 residents.
LOCATION
Southlake is 10 miles from the airport with Grapevine Lake adjacent to the city on the northeast side. Texas State Highway 114 runs through the city diagonally from northwest to southeast while Texas Farm to Market Road 1709 runs through the middle from west to east.
