The first step in getting rid of Bed Bugs is proper identification. We get many calls with people thinking the may have bed bugs, but do not have bed bugs. Identification is the most important thing.

Bed Bugs are small, brownish, oval shaped insects that live on blood. Adult bed bug bodies are flat and about the size of a lemon seed. After they feed on humans or animals they swell and turn a redish color.

Bed bugs can move fast on floors, ceilings and walls. Immature bed bugs are called nymphs. They shed there skin five times before reaching maturity. They also have to feed before they can shed. In ideal conditions bed bugs can develop in as little as 30 days and can produce three or more generations in a year. Female bedbugs can lay hundreds of eggs over a lifetime.

Treatment options to Get Rid of Bed Bugs:

There are several treatment methods once a positive identification is made. One method is a chemical tratment of infested areas. The second method is steam, all areas are steamed to kill the bed bugs and eggs. The third option is using heat, the property inside is raised to a temperature that will kill the bed bugs.

termites alatesThe other day one of my friends called and said I either found termites or magots. How can I tell the difference. I asked where did you find them. He was working in the flower bed near the home. I asked if the trash had been setting there. He said it was just a flower bed. That he was moving some decorative brick and these were right under it. I told him go ahead and send me a photo. This is the picture. I told him these are termites. You can see the worker termites and if you look at the longer white looking ones, they are Subterranean termite alates. They turn a darker brown in color and get wings. They are known as the swarmers or flying termites. They fly out typically in the afternoon on a warm and humid spring day. In 1998 we had to ask ourselves this. Over the years we have been very happy with the results.
