HISTORY
Carrollton’s early settlers arrived in the 1840s in which they purchased land from The Peters Colony. Then an English colony crossed into Denton County and settled in the area. Carrollton was most likely named for Carrollton, Illinois, the original home of many of these settlers.
Carrollton was exclusively agricultural until the construction of the Dallas-Wichita Railroad through Trinity Mills in 1878. Then the community’s industrial significance began to grow. Carrollton was incorporated in 1913. In 1912, the city then began a gravel industry and by late 1940s, it was known as a “grain and gravel” town. Carrollton also supported a brick plant, a dairy industry and National Metal Products was established in 1946.
The population grew rapidly after World War II. In 1950, it had a population of 1,610. Currently, its population is well over 120,000.

Carrollton is located in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. You can travel south to Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth, east to Garland and Plano, and north to McKinney, Frisco, Allen and Denton.
