HISTORY of Addison
In 1846, Preston Witt built a house near White Rock Creek and settled in the Peters Colony area. The community named itself Addison in 1902 after Addison Robertson, who served as the second postmaster from 1908 to 1916.
In 1902, the cotton gin was the first industry that opened on Addison Road by the Pistole brothers. It became the Plano Cotton Oil Mill in 1904 and then the Farmers Gin of Addison in 1919.
In 1953, the City of Addison was incorporated. The name changed to Town of Addison in 1982.
Addison has a total area of 4.4 square miles and is bordered by Dallas, Farmers Branch, and Carrollton. Addison Airport consumes roughly half the town and is the third largest general aviation airport in the nation.
The city also has 118 acres of parks, which are some of the finest in Texas. Belt Line Road is the main road in Addison lined with almost every restaurant imaginable. Addison has easy access to other cities in the metroplex via the Dallas North Tollway.
